Using twitter to make money online.

NOTE: This is a guest post by Mack of The Marketing Effect.

Everyone is talking about Twitter these days and you might have heard about people who are making money with this free service. This is true. You really can make money online with Twitter.

In case you didn’t know, Twitter is, as they call it, “…a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”. This is what makes it different from other social websites and a gold mine for people who want to promote their business, website or want to make money online.

Many of you are probably wondering “How can this service make me money?” Well, as I said, you can promote your businesses and bring in more clients, promote your money making website, or generate leads to affiliate links directly and make money that way.

The secret to a successful money-making endeavor is getting followers who will read you’re tweets. The usual way to do this is by following other people and hope they will return the favor. Another  way to gain followers is by adding a “Follow Me On Twitter” button on your website. However, if you don’t have the time but have the money, there are paid services out there that promise a large volume of followers for a fee.

Important Note: Not all accounts are real. What I mean by this is … a lotsof other people have made accounts that have been automated by robots or third party services like http://tweetlater.com or http://twitterfeed.com .

On the other hand, these are good services you can use to automate some of your tweeting. Like for example: Twitterfeed.com will make a tweet with the link to every new post on your blog. And TweetLater.com will allow you to send direct messages to people who have started following you, allowing you to build a relationship with those people. Building relationships is the most important aspect of social media marketing. It does not have to be something very personal but just enough to make people trust you and take note of what you tweet.

In the end I would like to point out that Twitter is a great service, it is free and most of all it can make you a lot of money if you use it correctly. Cheers to all and happy tweeting.

That’s right, Twitter is a great way to promote a website or to make some money. But I think there are another one important thing, which is you can build trust. When you have a large number of followers and you’re posting good articles with valuable information, tips&tricks or latest news from your niche/domain, they will read them and will see you like a guru.

I am not so sure twitter will make a lot of money for me but it definitely is a great way to generate traffic. What I have found that works well for achieving followers on twitter is to find someone whose philosophy is similar to yours, then go threw their followers find those that you like and follow them. Most if not all will follow you back and they are the kind of followers you need. This also eliminates fake accounts. It does take considerable time however.

I was wrong with Twitter. I thought it was done with the arrival of Plurk but the latter is struggling while Twitter has now gone mainstream.

As for making money on Twitter, yes it can be done. But you have to have a good plan. You can make cents by signing up with companies posting ads on Twitter where you get paid per click. Or you can build up trust, get targeted followers, and letting them know about your products and give them the option to buy from you or not. Because if you get too pushy with your product or services, it’s so easy for them to hit that Block button.

I have to admit that I am still not convinced that Twitter is worth the effort. There is no doubt that it can bring in more business but I feel that you’ll end up spending way too much time in contrast to what you’ll get out of it.

I’m still not convinced of Twitters viability. It only works when you manage to get thousands of genuinely interested people following you and that is incredibly hard. Its easy to get a load of other spammers. But real interested people are few and far between.

Twitter is a great way to earn income. You can be followed and show people what you are doing. Its like you are making people follow you to your income.

Well I guess in order to make some money you need thousands and thousands of followers. And as the spammer also got there, people are now more picky at who they follow. Even if they follow you at first, the moment they see that you only post some affiliate links or use the account to advertise something they will unfollow you. As everything else, you need to add some value here.

You will not immediately increase your sales of products you are selling by using twitter. But at least it is a nice option to get your website more visible in the internet. I wonder about the traffic generated from twitter. My friends have ever test it. He make a new post with proper keywords etc, than promote the post anywhere including twitter and facebook. Later he found that most traffic came from search engines and only very few came from twitter and facebook.

I use Twitter all the time to help promote my websites and my clients’ sites too! There’s a lot of opportunities on Twitter some people don’t know about, you just have to join and get into it.

Thanks for the info on using Twitter for making money. I have to admit that I am way behind the curve on this one and I am trying to decide how and if to get on this bandwagon.

Thank you for sharing the information. I am not using twitter at the moment. As a matter of fact I am quite new to social media. bought a book on social media last week. Hopefully I can learn something from the book. I think twitter would be great way to get my site more visible in the internet, just like st_hart had suggested.

I have yet to try Twitter. Now that I know money can be made I will most certainly look into it. But with a relatively dull and boring life, I’m not so sure people would follow me!
