Bloggers' unite for hunger and hope!

BlogCatalog, Heifer International, and the blogosphere will focus attention  on the plight of the hungry today, April 29, 2009, with the theme Hunger and Hope. This reminded us of an article at National Geographics we stumbled into last year about the poor in Haiti resorting to eating mud cookies to stave off those twisty little prickly pains that happen when our stomach parts start grinding on each other.

We used to make mud cookies and mud pies when we were little kids but never did it crossed our minds to eat them. Although there were times when we did “taste” those cookies when our parents weren’t looking. :P But in Haiti, man, the cookies were staple.

More than a year later, the mud cookies are still in the news. Dirt-poor Haitians still rely on them to remedy hunger pangs. HaitiAction.net has an article entitle “Mud Cookie economics in Haiti” that permits us a glimpse why hope for the hungry in this country might only exist in hunger-enduced deleriums.

We found the following photos of  Haitians making the infamous mud cookies at Lelong News:

There was an inquiry at Yahoo Answers if this is true. We can’t exactly remember the words but one of the replies went this way, “People are eating Mud Cookies in Haiti, please help anyway way YOU can.” Shouldn’t it be, “help anyway WE can?”

I had no idea that you could be so poor that you had to eat mud. It sounds like something from a comedy sketch. SAD indeed!!

Whether it is “WE” or “YOU” that should help doesn’t really matter IMO. The important thing is that someone does something.

But what is the best way to help these people? Sending money to their corrupt government won’t help. Any suggestions?

I am amazed that a country so close to ours is so stinking poor. Mud cookies, now I can see why the people of Haiti are so mad at the world.

Its too sad to see people eating mud cookies in order to survive. This is really shocking something needs to be done to overcome this problem.

    *speechless*

Now what can WE do? That article you linked to just told us that you do not give a man a fish, instead you teach him how to fish. As long as the greedy wealthy capitalists in Haiti are present, I don’t think the situation there would change.

    It’s saddening really.

    Yes, this is truth.
they call it mud cookie, not because way it looks, it’s made out of mud.
I’m 29year old female going to Haiti (not Republic of Dominica)
    July 18 to july 26.

there is One korean Female Paster live there for now seven years try to help them.

I went here back in 2007 too. I think best way to help them is contact the person who live there.

What was really said when I went there back in 2007, is that there is lot of people pertent to help these people and took the money to play golf in Dominica…

People, Republic of Dominica is in much much better situation than Haiti and do not assume when people said they are going to Dominica and help Haiti people.

Far as I know there is One the only Korean Paster is building orphanage and church to help them better.

if you are interest in helping them please contact me by e-mail for more information.
